I found this article online today from the Wellstar Atlanta Medical Centre on a new program to encourage mothers to talk to their babies from day 1!
“A new program at Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center is working to teach parents the importance of something many already do, talking to their babies.
It’s part of the “Talk with me baby” program.
“You want to speak in loving words, you want to speak in kind of a high pitched voice because that attracts the baby’s attention, and you wanna just talk to them about everyday things,” Trisha Harris with Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center said.
Mother baby nurses and staff in the special care nursery and NICU received training from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Marcus Institute.
They make sure parents know their baby’s brain grows the fastest during the first 3 years of life…85%,
“You’re just constantly talking to them it’s the vocabulary that you’re giving them,” she said.
But it’s not just talking, parents can stimulate their child’s brain by singing and reading as well. The program also encourages parents to repeat themselves, speak in their home language, use facial expressions and eye contact along with verbal communication. They also encourage you to pause and give your child time to react in some way when speaking with them.
All lessons that can play a role in putting your child on the path to a successful future even before they speak their first words
